The Historic Gateway Neighborhood (HGN) is a
non-profit local development corporation in downtown Cleveland.
It was established in
1992 as an expansion of two pre-existing groups: the East 4th
Street Local Development Corporation and the Prospect Avenue
Merchant Group. The merger of these two interests acknowledged the
potential that existed and recognized that the neighborhood
surrounding the Gateway complex should respond with a unified
approach.
Our mission is to promote
mixed used adaptive rehabilitation while respecting
our architectural heritage.
Over the past several
years, the neighborhood has been a leader of downtown Cleveland's
renewal and emergence as a place to live, visit, and
enjoy entertainment.
Redevelopment projects
completed in that time frame now exceed $238 million; another $87
million of projects are underway and more are in the planning
phase.
HGN generally includes the
area between Public Square and Playhouse Square, Superior and the
Innerbelt.
